THE DEITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Both the Old Testament and the New Testament depict the Holy Spirit as a Divine Person, equal to
Father God and Son Jesus Christ.
Thus the Holy Spirit is one of the three Personalities of the Trinity. The Deity of the Holy Spirit can be inferred from the act of creation.
"God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."
Genesis 1:1-2
The second verse implies that the Holy Spirit, as the Spirit of God, hovered above a dark, formless, empty earth and participated in its creation.
Words like Omnicient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Eternal, that are used to describe the attributes of God are applied to the Holy Spirit as well.
"How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself to God without spot, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God."
Heb: 9:14
"But Peter said, 'Ananias, why hast Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Ghost and to keep back part of the price of the land. Thou has not lied to men but to God.' "
Acts 5: 3-4
Here Peter is saying that the Holy Spirit is God.
"What, know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which you have of God and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price : therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit which are God's. "
1st Cor: 6:19-20
" For you are the temple of the Living God; as God hath said I will dwell in them and walk
in them and I will be their God and they shall be my people."
2nd Cor: 6:16
"Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by Whom you were sealed to the day of redemption."
Eph: 4: -30
"Guard through the Holy Spirit Who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you."
2nd Timothy 1:14
"For no prophecy was ever made by act of human will, but men, moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God."
2nd Peter 1:21
"...........through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things in which angels long to look."
1st Peter 1:12
"For there are Three Who bear witness in heaven : The Father, the Word (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit and these Three are One."
1st John 5: 6-7
