ONE HEARTBEAT AWAY
PART 97
(copied from Mark Cahill's Book)
There are only two possible relationships
between a believer and any other person:
ministry and fellowship.
We can have ministry with any other person,
believer or unbeliever. Ministry means that
we are friendly and interested in the person's
eternal destiny, and that we are looking for
opportunities to speak with them about Jesus.
My experience with the L.A. driver, was one
of ministry.
Fellowship is a relationship a believer can
only have with another believer. It may
include ministry from one to the other but
it also may include deep thoughts and
questions and requests for prayer and advice.
A believer can't do these things with an
unbeliever because an unbeliever's advice
will be based on worldly considerations, rather
than on the Presence of God, speaking through
one believer to the other. That is why Jesus
warns us not to
get too close to
those who are yet
His enemies:
"Give not that
which is holy to
the dogs, neither
cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under
their feet, and turn again and rend you."
(Matthew 7:6)
It's not that casting pearls before the un-appreciative is a waste of pearls. God has more
pearls where those came from. It is that these
swine have tusks to disembowel those who
approach too closely. So when we are tempted
to treat unbelievers as though they were believers it is really a bad idea. It will provoke them to
attack us, either to our face, or behind our back.
